Teachers are not comfortable doing what they are being asked to do.
I help classroom teachers create arts-integrated lessons with ease.
Thank you to those who attended PD workshops at the 2013 Berea Festival of Learnshops, in Berea, KY.
Integrating Drama with Common Core: Literacy and Math:
Integrating Drama with Science and Social Studies
Sample Theatre Integration PD Workshops:
Integrate Theatre across the Curriculum while applying drama to help struggling reading, writing, and math learners. This hands-on, interactive workshop will focus on drama-based modalities for reducing math, reading, and writing anxiety and for teaching to diverse learning styles. You will learn how applied drama and improvisation can help students conceptualize math word problems; visualize literary text; understand and apply grammar rules; and build vocabulary, math speed, and writing fluency. We will also explore drama skills assessment methodologies and approaches to Arts and Humanities Program Review documentation. You will leave with concrete tools and experience to pass along to others in your school or district.
Integrate Theatre across the Curriculum and make the invisible visible through Applied Drama. Help students conceptualize ideas and relationships– especially those too big or too little to see (one period of history in relationship to the rest, the solar system, the path of sound waves to the brain, photosynthesis, the plot of a book, the world of a piece of literature . . . . ) Workshop will focus on science; social studies; literature; and making sense of dates, data, maps, and charts; as well as drama skills assessment and program review documentation. You will leave with concrete tools and experience you can share with others and will engage in a hands-on exercise on communicating with other teachers and administrators about the value of arts integration.
